«Newsday» is an American daily newspaper in New York State, founded in 1940 by Alicia Patterson, daughter of Joseph Patterson, then the owner of such American newspapers as the «
Chicago Tribune» and «
New York Daily News», the latter of which he was also the founder. Translated from English, the newspaper is literally called «News of the Day». The publication is distributed primarily in New York State and its Nassau and Suffolk counties, as well as in the so-called Boroughs (municipalities) of Queens and Long Island. The newspaper is headquartered in Melville, Suffolk County. Newsday is the winner of 19 Pulitzer Prizes. In terms of its format and content, «Newsday» is practically a regional version (or even a copy) of the city's «New York Daily News» — short and interesting articles on various topics, provided with an abundance of photos. The newspaper is published in the modern Tabloid format, but the content of articles does not have the sensational style typical of the tabloid press, it is a high-quality journalistic publication with a large editorial team and traditions. By its circulation, the newspaper is among the top ten among all American publications, its weekly readership is more than 1 million people.
«Newsday Media Group» is now considered the largest publishing company in Long Island, it publishes many different regional periodicals and booklets (Travel Expo, JobsFair, Marching Band Festival, All-Long Ailend Sports Awards), newspapers with ads (Newsday Cars, Newsday Homes), Niche Publications weeklies (HometownShopper, FunBook, longisland, feedme, TopDoctors, 50plus, eatshoplive), Long Island magazines (exploreLI, LIlife, fanfare, LIBusiness, esploreFUN, kidsday, act2), and other printed products. Of course, the newspaper «Newsday» is its major print brand.
