«Gotham Gazette» is the first open online platform of its kind for discussing the state (political, economic, legislative, social, educational) apparatus of the city and state of New York, its laws, publications and orders, decisions taken, events and upcoming events. The publication's slogan is «The Place for New York Policy and Politics». It is aimed at everyone who lives or works in New York. In simple terms, this newspaper is an intermediary between the authorities and ordinary citizens, a guide-interpreter and a reference book that explains events and changes taking place in the city's state apparatus in an accessible language. «Gotham Gazette» is named after the popular nickname of the city of New York («Gotham city»).
This newspaper was first launched before the 2001 elections to publish candidate programs and gradually grew into an informational weekly published by the Citizens Union Foundation, a non-profit organization. The organization itself was created in 1897 as a political party, but after 10 years without achieving success, it moved away from politics to the sphere of jurisdiction and journalism, setting the goal of making the state apparatus of New York more transparent for citizens (Citizens Union of the City of New York). Today, «Gotham Gazette» is published once a week, in addition to its main content, it publishes a news feed borrowed from other publications, podcasts, and videos. The newspaper has repeatedly won various events and received awards for its work. This newspaper is somewhat similar to the New York «
City & State», which is published for city and state officials, representatives of the state apparatus, only the «Gotham Gazette» is aimed at ordinary citizens.
