The French magazine «L'Express» was created in 1953, its founders are considered to be the journalist Jean-Jacques Servan-Schreiber and Francoise Giroux — one of the key personalities of the French press and in the future a statesman and political figure, Minister of Culture of France. The format and structure of this publication were copied from the American weekly «
Time» and the German magazine «
Der Spiegel». Initially, «L'Express» was more political, it adhered to the center-left direction and supported the French politician Pierre Mendes-France. The journalistic staff of the publication changed several times: in 1964, a group of journalists separated from the editorial office to publish their own, less politicized magazine «Le Nouvel Observateur» (New Observer), in 1971, 9 more journalists left the magazine, later merging into
Le Point».
Today, «Express» follows rather a right-wing political direction. Magazine content: Actualites (current news of the week: politics, international events, society, culture, discussions, education), Economie (review of the economic situation of the week: banks, industry, large companies, small businesses, startups), Lifestyle (fashion, style, beauty, gastronomy, decor and design, technology, entertainment, event and gadget reviews, and coupons). Projects of the magazine: L'Express XII (DIX) (supplement to the magazine: travel, collecting, chic, expensive things, gadgets, technology), L'Express Canada (version of the magazine for French-speaking residents of Canada).
