«Valor Economico», a Brazilian newspaper dedicated to economics, finance and business, was created in 2000 as a result of the collaboration of «Grupo Folha» and «Grupo Globo». The name of the newspaper can be translated into English as «Economic Significance» or «Economic Sense». It was conceived as an alternative and competitor to another business newspaper, «Gazeta Mercantil», whose circulation declined significantly due to the financial crisis. In 2009, «Gazeta Mercantil» ended its publication, but in the same year it was replaced by a new economic newspaper «Brasil Economico» of Ongoing, which became the main competitor of «Valor Economico» for the next 6 years. Today, «Valor Economico» is distributed at the national level and is considered the main business and economic newspaper in Brazil. The main sections of the newspaper are: «Agrega notícias» (politics, macroeconomics, international news, analytics), «Empresas» (business news, business bulletin, translated articles from world business publications, for example, «
The Wall Street Journal»), «Finanças» (money, currency, finance, taxes), «EU & Investimentos» (European markets, banks, companies, investments), «Legislação & Tributos» (legislation, licensing, clarifications, amendments), «Caderno EU & Fim de semana» (culture, art, cinema, society). Applications: «Valor Data» (markets, summaries, tables), «Valor Invest» (investments).
