«La Razón» is a free daily newspaper in Spanish, which is distributed through the transport network of Argentina: at bus stops, trams, railway and metro stations in Buenos Aires. Originally the author's journalistic newspaper of Emilio Morales, it has been published twice a day since 1905 in the daytime «Quinta edición» and evening issues «Sexta edición». In 1911, when the newspaper was bought out by its editor-in-chief, «La Razón» became the first privately owned newspaper in Argentina. In 1921, it absorbed several other Buenos Aires newspapers. In 1928, it was the first newspaper in Argentina to publish the comic strip «Patoruzú» by cartoonist Dante Quinterno.
For decades, «La Razón» was one of the most dynamic and well-illustrated newspapers in Argentina, and it was considered the leading evening newspaper in Argentina. In 1947, the newspaper was taken over by the current president, Juan Peron, and later managed by his wife, Eva. Under their control, in 1952, the publication set a new newspaper record in the region, reaching a circulation of 500 thousand copies and even surpassing the national «
La Nación». In 1955, the newspaper was returned to its owners and continued to publish in the same form.
In 1964, «La Razón» acquired state-of-the-art printing equipment and came in second place in terms of circulation after «
Clarín». Then the newspaper was published as evening. In the 1990s, due to mismanagement and internal disputes, «La Razón» was declared bankrupt and put up for sale by the court.
The new owner of «La Razon» was a group of private entrepreneurs, to manage the newspaper they founded the company «La Razon S.A.» In the mid-1990s, the newspaper was transformed into a free daily tabloid with a characteristic distribution through the city's transport network: at public transport stops, metro stations; as well as in fast food restaurants, coffee shops, movie theaters. In 2000, «Clarín Group» became the new owner of the newspaper. Since 2008, it has been published again in the morning.
