«Crónica» was founded on July 29, 1963, by a local publisher, Hector Ricardo Garcia, who decided to create in Argentina something similar to the best representatives of sensational newspapers in Central America: loud headlines and bold themes. In fact, the newspaper was formed on the basis of the evening newspaper «Critica» (The Critics), which completed its publication at that time.
«Chronicle» was incredibly popular and was published in record circulations (up to 800 thousand copies), first as an evening edition, and then with an additional morning edition. In 1975, it surpassed even the leading national newspaper «
Clarín» in popularity, but was shut down by President Isabel Perón due to the censorship restrictions of the time. After 2 years, the publication was restored, but could not even remotely approach its previous records.
«Crónica» is published under the slogan «Firme junto al pueblo» (Branded with the people) in three editions: morning, evening and night. The newspaper traditionally has two sections, one is the main one, and the second is devoted to sports. All headlines in the newspaper are presented in large letters in red or black in an attractive form. The main page contains brief main news, the most important of which is designed in the largest format and then in descending order. The articles are written succinctly and enticingly, and there are a lot of photos in the publication. The newspaper covers the most interesting topics and events: sensations, incidents, crime, investigations, rumors. Entertainment content is used to attract readers.
