A young and progressive Venezuelan newspaper created in 2009 with the support of the country's government. Translated from Spanish, it is called «Courier of the Orinoco». In 1818, a newspaper with this name was already published on the territory of Venezuela, it was a weekly created by Simon Bolivar, it was published for a short 2 years, but it earned the title of «The Oldest newspaper in Latin America». It is believed that the new edition was named after the very first newspaper. The newspaper itself is named after the local river. The Orinoco is the main river of Venezuela, it originates at the Delgado Chalbaud Mountain on the border with Brazil and then runs in a wide arc through the entire territory of the country, flowing into the Atlantic Ocean. Newspaper slogan: «La Artillería del pensamiento».
The publication has close ties with the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (Partido Socialista Unido de Venezuela, PSUV) and the Ministry of Information and Communications (Ministerio del Poder Popular para la Comunicación y la Información, MinCI), and is considered their official newspaper.
