«The New York Times Magazine» is a Sunday supplement to the newspaper «
The New York Times». As an independent publications, it can be purchased or subscribed separately. In terms of format, it is an informative and versatile magazine. The magazine covers a wide range of topics and relevant events of the week: politics, economics, modernity, society, history, science, sports, opinions, readers' letters, Sunday reviews, culture, art and design, books, cinema, music, television, theater, billboard, education, health, lifestyle, real estate, travel, food, and more.
The editors of «The New York Times» always had something to tell and talk about with their readers, but there wasn't enough space in the daily issue for this, so this magazine was created. Its first issue was published on September 6, 1896 and even then contained photographs. The editors have made it a tradition to invite famous personalities of their time, such as Dubois and Einstein, to their pages. Therefore, for a long time, the magazine remained a place for publishing various ideas and opinions from well-known politicians, intellectuals, and scientists. In 1979, the magazine launched a Pulitzer Prize-winning column discussing English grammar and etymology. Another innovation was the crossword and puzzle section, which suddenly became incredibly popular. In 1999, a new section «The Ethicist» with humorous tips became a virtual hallmark of the publication. In 2004, the «Consumed» section with cultural news was launched. The most popular sections of the magazine are: Future, Ethics, Recommendations.
