«The Sporting News» also known by the acronym «TSN» is an American sports magazine dedicated to baseball. This magazine has been referred to simply as the Baseball Bible in the American periodical market for more than a century. It was founded on March 17, 1886, by Alfred Spink, owner of the St. Louis Browns baseball team. In addition to baseball, the publication also covered other sporting events, such as horse racing and wrestling. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was the only magazine in the United States dedicated to baseball. Soon he became the main messenger of such competitions as «The American League» and «World Series».
In the 1940s, the magazine's content was expanded to include football (an 8-page supplement, «The Quarterback»), as well as basketball and hockey. For its time, it was quite an initiative and modern publication. In 1967, the magazine first published a color photo, and since 1991 it has been published entirely in color format. The publication has been available on the Internet since 1996.
The magazine is known for its awards, which it awards to the best athletes, players, representatives of teams in various sports at the end of the year: Sportsman of the Year (Athlete of the Year), Player of the Year (Player of the Year), Rookie of the Year Award, Coach of the Year (Judge of the Year), Pro Athlete of the Year Year (Professional Athlete of the Year), College Athlete of the Year (Student Athlete of the Year), and many others. The magazine also published various annual sports reports.
Since 2008, due to financial problems and declining popularity, the magazine has been published twice a month, and in 2012 its last printed issue was published. Today «Sporting News» is presented only in electronic form. The new edition covers Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association, the National Football League, the National Hockey League, NASCAR, American Collegiate Basketball, and soccer.
