One of the largest-circulation daily newspapers in Suriname, it is published every morning except Sunday (6 days a week) on approximately 30 pages in a broad format. The content is traditional for most local newspapers: political, economic, sports news, Paramaribo Bulletin, social and community news. On Friday, she talks about show business, health, scientific achievements, gadgets. The Saturday edition is more extensive in content, it summarizes the results of the week, publishes a TV program and a large section about travel. In addition, here you can find news from the Netherlands and other countries in Europe and around the world. The main language of the newspaper is Danish, with minor inclusions in English and Portuguese.
The story of the creation of this newspaper is very original and looks more like a legend. In 2002, the owner of the Surinamese company «RudisaBeverages NV» (food, beverages, cosmetics), Dilip Sarjo, decided to advertise his new soft drink in Suriname's then-largest newspaper, «
De Ware Tijd». However, due to a mistake or misunderstanding, instead of his advertising, an ad from his competitor was placed on the page he paid for. Sarjo went to the editorial office to explain, «I paid a lot of money for advertising and what I see», but instead of an apology, he heard something like, «if you have so much money, why don't you start your own newspaper». So the new media project was born.
First of all, the Times of Suriname was created to promote its brands, but soon it became a major advertising platform and a very popular newspaper in general. Today, it covers 35% of the print market in the country. It is published by a young and proactive team of journalists. The first full-color newspaper in Suriname.
