«Mladina» (The Youth) is a Slovenian political magazine published once a week with an analysis of recent events. «Mladina» magazine is mostly focused on discussing politics, but also covers other topics: economics, science, culture, and ecology. Designed for the modern young generation.
«Mladina» was founded in January 1943, during the occupation of Slovenia. It acted as an illegal mailing list of the Union of Slovenian Youth, supported the national liberation struggle. In the post-war period, it was already a newspaper with a regular publication. After 1976, the concept of the publication changed, and now it increasingly criticized the established political system.
In the 1980s, «Mladina» was an important political magazine devoted to a wide range of social issues that were relevant at that time: on its pages it raised the topics of freedom of the press and freedom of speech, the privileges of the socialist nomenclature, the political role of the Yugoslav People's army, the persecution of dissidents, the suppression of youth subcultures, ecology, strikes, and repression in socialism. The issue of respect for human rights was the central theme of «Mladin». All this was presented in the form of investigative journalism and provocative articles.
«Mladina» in electronic version is available on the Internet since 2000. The «Mladina» website contains a large archive of printed versions of the publication over the years.
