Daily newspaper of Slovakia, published since 1920. It owes its name and content to the Soviet newspaper of the same name, from which it was copied. During the Communist Party's rule and the communist regime, «Pravda» was the main newspaper in the country. All published materials at that time were subjected to strict censorship and indoctrination in accordance with the party line. Since 1925, the newspaper «Pravda» has been designated as the main press organ of the Communist Party of Slovakia. In 1930, the newspaper's editorial staff moved from Prague to Bratislava. From 1948 to 1989, «Pravda» was the main print source of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Slovakia. In 1955, Pravda was awarded the Order of Labor as the first daily newspaper in Czechoslovakia.
After 1990, the newspaper lost its former significance and political orientation, becoming a left-liberal media outlet. However, the newspaper managed to maintain its popularity among readers in the future.
The modern «Pravda» continues to play an important role in the Slovak media market, continuing the baton taken up in the Soviet years. The newspaper pays much attention to social issues, education, health, and sports. Pravda regularly receives various awards: Humanist (2015), Prize of the Slovak Academy of Sciences for the Promotion of Science (2015), Prize of the Literary Foundation of Journalism (2012, 2014), Prize of the International Federation of Agriculture (2014), Slovak National Award for Quality (2013), Prize of the Slovak Press (2013).
Pravda is a long-standing media partner, organizer and sponsor of various sports events in Slovakia, and also awards various prizes. Since 1957, the newspaper's publishing house has been organizing the annual sports event Pravda-Televizia-Slovnaft (PTS). Since 1993, the newspaper, together with the Slovak Football Association, has awarded the annual Footballer of the Year award. In 2015, the newspaper became the main information partner of the Olympic Games on human rights. Since 1998, «Pravda» newspaper and Dobré bydlení magazine have been partners in the prestigious Construction of the Year competition. Pravda traditsiono is a partner of the most popular wine event in Slovakia «Days of open cellars under the Lesser Carpathians». Since 1996, «Pravda» has been a partner of the traditional folk festival in Terkhov «Days of Janoshik». The Bratislava Music Festival is also not complete without the participation of the newspaper.
The main circulation of «Pravda» is distributed by subscription to regular readers. The newspaper is available for free sale throughout Slovakia. In electronic form, the publication can be found on the official website.
