«The Gulf Times» is Qatar's main state-run newspaper for foreign audiences, published in English by the «Gulf Publishing & Printing Company» since 1978. At first it was published once a week, but today it is published every day and distributed by subscription. Subscription to the newspaper is mainly issued by organizations (companies, diplomatic missions) for a fee, and the newspaper is distributed free of charge on the territory of organizations. The publication can be downloaded for free on the website in pdf format. Another edition of the editorial board — the Arabic-language newspaper «Al Raya», is actually a copy for the local audience.
The newspaper offers readers an authoritative look at the latest developments in Qatar and other countries from the official government. Each issue of the newspaper has approximately 20 pages: News from Qatar and the Middle East, a brief overview of events from other continents (America, Asia, Europe), pages with news from individual countries (depending on the events) (USA, India, Pakistan, Philippines), various analytics. For each issue, depending on the day of the week, appendices are published: Business, Sport, Community, and others. So the total volume of printed pages is 30-40 in large format. Another app, Society magazine about lifestyle, technology, and entertainment, is published once a month.
There are practically no ads in the newspaper, only useful and reference information. The name of the newspaper uses the word «Gulf», which in this case means the entire Persian Gulf. The name of the newspaper can be translated as «Times of the Persian Gulf». The newspaper's logo features the logo of Qatar's first Dhow (sailing ship), purchased by Sheikh Hamad in the 1930s. Interestingly, this is the first newspaper in the country that did not hesitate to touch on «acute» issues (such as crime, alcohol-related issues), which usually did not pass the censorship filter in other publications. Today it is more moderate in this regard.
