«A Bola», a Portuguese sports-themed periodical, was founded in 1945 by two local soccer players (and later journalists) Candido de Oliveira and Antonio Ribeiro dos Reis. The newspaper's name means «Ball» in Portuguese and English. At first, the newspaper was devoted only to local football and was published several times a week. Since 1995, the newspaper has been published daily, and its subject matter has been expanded by the review of European football. Currently, the pages of the newspaper «A Bola» pay more and more attention to other sports. In 2012, the newspaper's editorial staff launched the Portuguese sports channel «A Bola TV» specifically for online users. A Bola is the most popular Portuguese-language sports newspaper abroad, published in Africa (mainly for Angola, Cape Verde and Mozambique)and America (Brazil) for the Portuguese diaspora.
