The Paraguayan National Daily newspaper, with its office in Asuncion, has been published since October 8, 1873. For most of its history, it was published as the evening edition, in 1999, in addition to it, a morning edition was also launched, which became the main one in the new century, and the evening edition was completed in 2002. Since 2004, the editorial board also publishes a Sunday edition, today the newspaper is published 7 days a week. The newspaper's name means «Last Hour» in Spanish. The newspaper is distinguished by its sharp and critical publication styles, which were laid down at its foundation. Other recognizable supplements of the newspaper: «El Chiste de Botti» (humorous, satirical inserts), «El Eco de la Noticia» (author's section with quotes from politicians), «¡Click!» (on the last page, a section with news similar to the tabloid press). The newspaper is distributed mainly in the capital, and you can also receive it by subscription in other cities of the country.
Traditional sections of the newspaper «Última Hora»: Nacionales (national and regional news of Paraguay, city news, provincial news), D10 (large sports section: national Paraguayan football, Latin American football, Brazilian football, Argentine football, Ligue 1, Cerro Porteno, Club 12Deoctubre, Club River Plate, General Diaz, Guairena FC, Guarani, Libertad, Nacional, Olimpia, San Lorenzo, Sol de America, Sportivo Luqueno, reviews and ratings of clubs and players, European football, tennis, motorcycle racing), Gaming (computer games), Arte (culture, music, theater, cinema, TV), Mundo (international events: politics, economy, science and technology, trends), Turismo (tourism, recreation, travel), Especiales (special reports), Mundo Animal (animals and nature, ecology).
The newspaper was created by the Paraguayan journalist Isaac Kostyanovsky (Kostya), together with a group of local businessmen and under the leadership of Colonel Pablo Rojas. The idea of the new newspaper was to create an alternative to the classic morning editions «Ultima Hora» was to be published in the afternoon, from about three o'clock, when the inhabitants of Paraguay took a break for lunch or rested from the midday heat. The newspaper summed up the day and set the tone for the next morning. «Ultima Hora» was published in a rather bold tone, traditionally it began with criticism of the government and then moved on to the news of the day (El diario de la tarde). Each issue of the newspaper had approximately 15 pages in a format close to a modern tabloid, and it was printed in an old printing house, a former brewery building on Benjamín Constant Street, using a linotype method. This building was previously used as a printing house, for example, the newspaper «El País» by Augusto Roa Bastoso was published here in the middle of the XX century. The authorities made several attempts to shut down the newspaper, but it soon returned to its work. In 1976, the newspaper carried out a large-scale reorganization of the publishing house, updating the printing equipment and the newspaper itself. The newspaper's website appeared in 1997, and the electronic version appeared in 2008.
