The Norwegian newspaper Upstream is fully dedicated to the international hydrocarbon market and everything related to it. It was founded in 1996 as a worthy competitor to other similar publications in the Arctic region: Oil & Gas Journal, Petroleum Intelligence Weekly, Offshore Engineer. The publication describes itself as «The Global Oil and Gas News Source» (an international news source of the oil and gas industry).
The term «Upstream» itself is mostly actively used among English and American oil and gas companies. According to their concept, the entire hydrocarbon industry, starting from the search for deposits and ending with the delivery of finished petroleum products to consumers, can be divided into three sectors, from the most complex to the simplest: Upstream, Midstream and Downstream. At the very beginning of the journey (at the top of it), there will be operations for prospecting and developing deposits. Hence the term «Upstream», translated from English: Up (top) + Stream.
The topic of «Upstream» is primarily devoted to technologies for the search, development and production of hydrocarbons, and also covers the following issues: processing and delivery of hydrocarbons to consumers, construction and use of gas and oil pipelines, relevant aspects of legislation, and ecology. The publication can be considered as a business publication, in its second part you can find: economic news, reviews of financial markets and their key players, an offshore business section, vacancies, and much more.
The publication is owned by NHST Media Group and is headquartered in Oslo. Correspondents of the publication are present in all major cities participating in the oil and gas market: London, Moscow, New Delhi, Singapore, Rio de Janeiro, Houston and others. The online version of the newspaper is updated daily and covers all aspects of the oil and gas industry, from the exploration, production, processing and delivery of hydrocarbons to their sale to the consumer.
