The Italian weekly Panorama was first published in Italy in 1939, but only a year later the publication was closed due to unprofitability. In October 1962, Arnoldo Mondadori, a local successful publisher and founder of the Arnoldo Mondadori Editore, relaunched it as a monthly magazine in collaboration with the American magazine «
Time». In general, the concept of the publication was copied from the American counterpart, the magazine focused on the middle class and told about interesting international events with a lot of photos. The concept was unsuccessful and was not supported by the readership, in 1965 the magazine had to start all over again: new periodicity: weekly; new format-it was shortened to a modern Tabloid: new slogan — «I fatti separati dalle opinioni» (Facts separate from opinions); new sections: focusing on local political events, economy, society, sports, science, show business, entertainment; the authorship of articles was depersonalized, they were not signed.
In fact, Panorama was the first news weekly in Italy, an information and analytical publication that summed up the results of the week. He paid equal attention to politics, economics, and social news, which earned him a good reputation among readers. The main peak of its popularity occurred in the 1980s. In 1994, «Mondadori» was acquired by Silvio Berlusconi, as a result of which the weekly became an expression of the views of the center-right. Today, his political affiliation is somewhere between left and right.
The current version of Panorama magazine is very diverse: politics, economics, sports, culture, modern technologies, lifestyle, music, cinema, entertainment. The main competitor of the magazine has always been the journalistic «
L'espresso», dedicated to various investigations and abuses.
