«Il Gazzettino» is the central newspaper of the north-east of Italy, its publishing house is located in the municipality of Mestre. It is one of the oldest newspapers in Italy that still exist today. It was first published in Venice in 1887. Initially, the newspaper was more of a literary and artistic publication: for a long time, novels and short stories were published on its pages, and news occupied only a small part of its content.
In 1941, Il Gazzettino merged with another publication, Gazzetta di Venezia (the Venetian Newspaper), and from then on it was published under its name. The editorial policy of the publication during these years was conservative, close to the position of the Christian Democratic Party of Italy. In 1946, the name of the newspaper was changed to Gazzettino sera (Evening Newspaper). Since 1977, the publishing house has moved from Venice to Mestre, where it is located today. At the same time, it was returned to its original name, which in translation from Italian into English means simply the word «Newspaper». Il Gazzettino is distributed mainly in Venice and, as a local provincial publication with additional pages, in other northern regions of Italy: Treviso, Padua, Belluno, Rovigo, Friula, Pordenone. The circulation of the publication in the last 20 years is kept at the level of 20 thousand copies.
Here are the sections available in the modern print version of the newspaper: Italia (national news of Italy, latest events, incidents), Economia (business, economics, finance, market reviews), Sport (sports, football, athletics, local teams), Esteri (international news), Tecnologia (modern technologies, gadgets), Cultura e Spettacoli (cinema, music, TV, theater, billboard), Gossip (show business, celebrities), Animali (pets), Viaggi (regions, province, travel guide), Salute (health, medicine, healthcare), Motori (auto), Europa (Europe news). The «Il Gazzettino TV» section with videos is available for readers of the electronic edition.
