«Alto Adige» — is an Italian regional daily newspaper of the Trentino-Alto Adige region in the province of Bolzano. It is distributed in South Tyrol, Trentino and Belluno. The newspaper was founded in 1946 by the Comitato di Liberazione Nazionale (Comitato di Liberazione Nazionale), a socio-political organization that played an important role in coordinating the entire political movement of opposition in Italy during the Second World War. The editorial board of Novaya gazeta was formed on the basis of La Provincia di Bolzano, which closed in the same year. In the 1950s, it was the central and virtually only newspaper in South Tyrol, and was published with the support of the Italian government. If you translate the name of this newspaper into English, you will get literally «Upper Adige» (Adige is a river in the province of Trento).

It is interesting that «Alto Adige» took into account the internationality of the region's population and since 1958 regularly published supplements in local dialects: a two-page German-language supplement «Deutsches Blatt», a weekly «Plata ladins» in Friulian, «Di sait vo Lusèrn» and «Liaba lait» in Cimbrian dialect.
