«Le Pèlerin» — is a French monthly Roman Catholic family magazine for a wide range of readers, where everyone will find something interesting for themselves. «Le Pèlerin — is a magazine with which you can: find out the latest news, renew your spirituality, discover the richness of the historical, spiritual and architectural heritage of the country and the world, explore pilgrimage routes, take advantage of tips and recommendations for every day. In a word, the magazine tells French readers how to live properly from the point of view of the Roman Catholic Church. Translated from French, the name of the magazine means the word «Wanderer» or «Pilgrim».
Originally a purely religious magazine, it was published by the French Assumptionists (a Catholic monastic congregation) from July 12, 1873. The main tasks of the magazine at that time were: supporting Christian education and the press, fighting church separatism, countering secularization, and organizing pilgrimages. It was distributed officially in church parishes and was called «Revue Illustrée de la Samaine». It is interesting that since 1877 it has already been illustrated, and since the 1900s-full-color (photos were mostly replaced by hand-colored illustrations).
Today, the magazine is published by the Bayard Presse editorial board and is considered one of the central Catholic publications along with the daily newspaper «
La Croix». According to statistics, the publication has more than 500 thousand readers throughout France, but in recent years its popularity has been declining. The editorial staff consists of 46 journalists. The journal retains its traditional structure (Chemins, Patrimoine, Solidarités, Foi et spiritualité): news, religion and spiritualism, family, society and culture. It will be interesting, first of all, for believers.
