«Berlingske», formerly known as «Berlingske Tidende» — is the national newspaper of Denmark with its office in Copenhagen. It was first published in 1749 and has changed its name several times over the course of its long history: «Kjøbenhavnske Danske Post-Tidender», «Berlingskes Politiske og Avertissements Tidende». The newspaper received its final name in 1936 after the name of the German-Danish book publisher Ernst Heinrich Berling, who was its founder. Translated into English, its name sounds like «Berling Newspaper» or «Berling News».

Until 1903, «Berlingske» was the only Danish newspaper that had official permission to publish state news. The newspaper has long supported the Conservative Party of Denmark. It is currently considered an independent publication. Until 1982, it was owned by the Berling family, after which the Berlingske-group was organized on the basis of the publishing house. In 2000, it was bought out by the Norwegian Orkla Group, in 2006 it became the property of the British Mecom Group, and in 2015 by the Belgian De Persgroep together with the Mecom Group. «Berlingske» has won numerous awards and prizes: for the Best Design, the Best European Newspaper of the Year (2012), and the Calving Prize. Today «Berlingske» is the oldest publication in Denmark and one of the oldest in the world. The newspaper has many traditions and its own style. Until 1971, the newspaper was also published in an additional evening edition, today it is replaced by the weekly «Weekendavisen».
