«The Toronto Sun» was founded in 1971 by the editorial staff of the then-closed conservative and populist newspaper «Toronto Telegram» (it was declared bankrupt after a court case). In fact, it continued to be published under a different name. Translated from English, the newspaper's name sounds like «Toronto Star». The newspaper's slogan is «Toronto's Other Voice». The editorial line of the newspaper represents the political trend of British conservatism and American neoconservatism in the country (support for individualism and independence, stands for a strong army and clear laws, condemns high taxes). Traditionally, the newspaper is sold in major cities of Canada through vending machines, as well as newsstands, by subscription and in electronic form. Since 2004, the newspaper has annually presented the «George Gross Toronto Sun Sportperson of the Year» award to the best athlete of the year (named after a Czechoslovak sports journalist who worked for the newspaper for a long time). Today, the newspaper is part of Canada's largest media conglomerate, «Postmedia Network Inc.», which unites more than 140 newspapers.
The newspaper has several main sections and many subsections: News (news, national, international, Toronto, Ontario, incidents, economy, technology, weather, traffic situation), Sport (hockey, NHL, basketball, American football, NFL, handball, baseball, MLB), Opinion (opinions, analytics, humor and cartoons, editor's column, readers' letters), Entertainment (movies, TV, book reviews, music, stage), Life (style, health, everyday life, travel, food).
