«O Dia» is a Brazilian daily newspaper of the city and state of Rio de Janeiro, founded on June 5, 1951 by Chagas Freitos, then a Brazilian deputy and later governor of the states of Guanabara and Rio de Janeiro. The newspaper was a popular city bulletin, which did not ignore any, even the most insignificant, news, traditional here were reports of incidents, criminal reports, various investigations. The publication was published in the printing house of another Brazilian newspaper «A Notícia». In 1983, O Dia was bought out by journalist and businessman Ari Carvalho, and over the next 5 years it underwent a major reorganization to compete with such publications as «Jornal do Brasil» and «O Globo». Over time, the editorial staff formed into an independent company, which today also owns the TV channel «O Dia TV» and the radio station «FM Radio Dia». «O Dia» cooperates with the Spanish sports newspaper «Marca» and publishes the application «MarcaCampeão». The newspaper is also known for its series of popular satirical comics «Caderno D» (O Dia D.), «Pelezinho» (Pelezinho, Pele in his youth), «Vereda Tropical» (political comics), «Dr. Baixada», «Fujoão». In 2012, the newspaper received the «Excelência Jornalística» award from the «Sociedade Interamericana de Imprensa» (SIP).
