«Salzburger Nachrichten» — is a daily newspaper of the city of Salzburg, one of the first post-war newspapers in Austria. During the difficult post-war period, when the territory of the country remained occupied by American troops, the publication of the newspaper required official permission from the Information Service Branch (ISB) commission. Permission to publish the new newspaper was granted by Eisenhower's 12th Army Corps, and on June 7, 1945, the first issue of the newspaper appeared on 2 pages with the headline «From the 12th Corps to the population of Austria». In the same year, the newspaper received independent privileges and the modern name «Salzburger Nachrichten». Although it is a regional publication of Salzburg, the newspaper is distributed throughout the western region of Austria.
Since 1995, the newspaper has been published in two separate editions, one for the city of Salzburg and the other for the Federal State of Salzburg, which differ in both format and thematic sections and appendices.
Since 1997, the Salzburger Nachrichten newspaper has been published online and contains an up-to-date electronic version of the latest edition. The electronic version of the newspaper is formed entirely from the prints of the printed edition.
The modern «Salzburger Nachrichten» consists of 4 permanent sections: politics, economics, culture and sports. Other sections devoted to art, health, travel, movies, and entertainment are published periodically and depending on the day of the week. On Saturday, the final issue is published with reports and analytics, and also includes: poster and TV program, announcements and other sections. The newspaper is considered to be politically independent with a neutral point of view. It relies on respect for human values proclaimed by the UN, for the rule of law and democratic rights, market policy, and opposes totalitarianism.
The Salzburger Nachrichten newspaper has been awarded many prestigious European awards in the field of journalism and the press every year since 1994. Salzburger Nachrichten is not just a newspaper, but a real Austrian print brand in the market of high-quality press. The publication also organizes numerous events, themed evenings, meetings and discussions, for example: Leonidas SN (election of the athlete of the year), Business Run (race for business representatives).
