An Austrian liberal newspaper, founded during the Revolution of 1848. It is published 6 days a week on 32 pages on weekdays, on Saturdays on — 50. On the pages of the publication you can always find: news of domestic and foreign policy, business, finance, economics, sports with additional daily inserts. In 2005, Die Presse was recognized as the best newspaper in Austria. The newspaper was one of the first in Austria to use modern technologies in printing, for example, in 1985 it mastered the technology of remote transfer of layouts to the printing house.
The newspaper was founded during the March Revolution in 1848 by entrepreneur August Zang as a moderate and conservative publication. After the suppression of the revolution, it lost its relevance and was sold. Repeatedly passed from one owner to another.
On the eve of the First World War, many famous personalities were published in the newspaper, the permanent staff of the publishing house reached 500 journalists. In terms of its circulation, Print was third in the ranking of Austrian newspapers of that time. In 1920, the newspaper's circulation reached a record 90,000 copies at that time.
During the Second World War, Die Presse was not published. It resumed publication in 1946, becoming one of the few independent Austrian newspapers of the post-war period. The newspaper played a key role in the so-called «Vienna Newspaper War of 1958».
Since 2009, the newspaper has also published its Sunday edition under the title «Die Presse am Sonntag». This is a separate newspaper with high-quality story materials and the results of the week from the world of politics, education, sports, culture, and entertainment.
Die Presse is not only a daily newspaper, but also an organizer and sponsor of various events in Austria. Since 2004, the newspaper's publishing house annually selects a person of the year among representatives of science, economics, business, industry, and other spheres of life. Since 2014, the newspaper has published an annual list of the most influential economists in Austria.
