The newspaper «Sport Ekspres» was first published in early 1995 as a supplement to the opposition newspaper «
Koha Jonë» (Our Time) and became an independent publication in September of the same year. The name of the newspaper can be translated into English as «Sport-Express». At that time, the main and only national sports newspaper in Albania was «
Sporti Shqiptar» (Albanian Sport), published since the Soviet era, so the new edition took only the second place in the list of the Albanian sports press. The new sports newspaper was more modern and innovative.
Until 2001, the newspaper was published twice a week, after which it became a daily. It quickly gained recognition, mainly among young people, while the older generation preferred «Sporti Shqiptar». Today it is considered the main sports newspaper in Albania. Mainly devoted to national and European football: Albanian football (Category 1, Category 2, Albanian Cup, women's football, juniors, transfers, analytics), European football (All Leagues, Serie A, Bundesliga, European League, Premier League, Champions League, European Cup), football of individual countries (Italian football, Spanish football, English football). Other sports that are also covered by the publication: tennis, auto racing (Formula 1), motorcycle racing (Moto GP), boxing, basketball, volleyball, athletics, seasonal sports.
The popularity of this sports newspaper declined significantly after the appearance of «
Panorama Sport» in 2004.
